The housekeeping department of the Manchester Grand Hyatt under the collective name of Hyatt Housekeepers United for Our Rights has been in a struggle with management of this exclusive hotel to demand an end to a "30 Room Cleaning Policy" which went into effect on January 17, 2006.
Before this policy went into effect we were given 16/17 rooms to clean per day, today we are expected to nearly double the amount of work in the same 8 hour work day. |

| The workers of the housekeeping department have met with management, have sent letters and petitions to outline our demands, and we attempted to negotiate a resolution to this conflict. Unfortunately management has not answered in a positive way.
Every day from February 1 to March 3, 2006, the Hyatt Housekeepers United for Our Rights took to the streets in protest of this impossible work load. We protested in front of the Manchester Grand Hyatt every day for 30 days. We ask all who believe in justice, dignity and workers rights to join us to demand an end to exploitive policies that infringe on the physical and psychological integrity of working people. The Manchester Grand Hyatt has 1625 rooms, it is the largest hotel in Southern California, and is the second largest hotel (and one of the most profitable) in the global Hyatt chain. There is no justification for the imposition of such an unfair policy as the "30 Room Program." All we want is for our work to be respected, we are not robots. On average we have 5-10 years of service to the Hyatt corporation, and we deserve better. At this point we have no labor union representation, and our only option is public protest. Please support our cause in any way you can. |
